Its been a while since we’ve posted and we apologise for the long silence. We have been busy because we’ve recently moved to Egypt and it has taken a while settling in. InshaaAllaah we will have internet set up soon and the usual weekly posts will resume.

About this Blog
Assalaamu ‘Aleykum waRahmatullaahi waBarakaatuh,
This blog is run by a husband and wife (Aboo and Ummu ‘Abdillaah) who want to share their journey towards memorising the Qur’aan with other muslims across the globe (particularly those living in the West) who are driven by the same goal. There are many websites out there concerning the Qur’aan but we have not come across anything ourselves that solely focuses on memorisation of the Book of Allaah.
We hope to provide you with quality advice, tools and materials that will aid your memorisation and make it easier. This blog is unique because it will be giving you two perspectives when it comes to memorising the Qur’aan; one of a husband who is memorising the Qur’aan for the first time and the other of a wife who has already memorised the Qur’aan and is now looking to move on to memorising the other recitations.
Both of us live in the West, do not speak Arabic – nor are we Arab – and have not memorised any portion of the Qur’aan when we were younger (other than al-Faatihah and a few soorahs in Juz ‘Amma). So as you can see, we are in pretty much the same boat as the majority of people living in the West. To many of us faced with the obstacle of not knowing the Arabic language, memorising the Qur’aan may seem like a daunting, unattainable task. But we want to show you that with the right intention, hard work, effort and dedication, you can be a Haafidh.
As we are writing this, we are living in London and I (Aboo ‘Abdillaah) am 24 now and have just completed memorising three juz, walhamdulillaah. My wife (Ummu ‘Abdillaah, also 24 now) memorised the Qur’aan all by herself due to lack of teachers around her and she was 18 when she first even thought about taking on this noble goal. She had no sister who memorised, reviewed or tested her. Her only partner was her mushaf and Allaah. So she is living proof that even with no support and assistance, you can fulfil your goal. Allaah has blessed me by making her my wife as well as my teacher. Most of you probably aren’t used to hearing that a brother learns from his wife so I’d like to take this opportunity to tell all my brothers in Islaam who are married, that just because Allaah has granted us a degree above our wives, it shouldn’t prevent us from humbling ourselves and benefitting from whatever knowledge Allaah has imparted to them. Study, learn and recite the Qur’aan together. It is one of the greatest things you can share with one another and will increase your love inshaaAllaah.
This blog will cover numerous topics regarding Hifdh; general memorisation tips, methods and techniques, resources for making memorisation easier, resources for learning tajweed to aid your memorisation, audios and biographies of the Qurraa (recitors of the Qur’aan), accounts of those who memorised the Qur’aan and much more.
Finally, our purpose in creating this blog is to help you all become memorisers of Allaah’s Book. That being said, we would appreciate your input and suggestions to make it better and more beneficial.
May Allaah’s Blessings and Peace be upon His Last Messenger, Muhammad ibn ‘Abdillaah.
