Wa 'Aleykum Salaam waRahmatullaahi waBarakaatuh,
This isn't a question that can be answered simply. The mutashaabihaat in the Qur'aan are one of the biggest aids to hifdh as well as being from its biggest hurdles. The best way to get past these is to have a teacher who points them out to you each time you reach one of these verses and then extracts the verses similar to it, and explains to you in detail what the reason/s for the differing is/are. This is because the differences are tied to several aspects such as the arabic language, meaning of the qur'aan, i'jaaz etc.
As some people don't have access to a teacher, There are a lot of books out there written on this topic, also several poems from the scholars of the past and present that really help make this easier for the student. The only problem is that these are all in Arabic and I don't know of any in the English language. We've been working on new material for the blog this month and inshaaAllaah working on a complete reconstruction. From one of the new things we're working on is translating lessons for an explanation of a poem on the mutashaabihaat. InshaaAllaah keep a look out for it, once the new site is up, the first lessons will be uploaded with it.
